REdesign Lab Members Selected for NCSU CMI’s YSA and SIRI Programs

NCSU’s Comparative Medicine Institute (CMI) has selected three projects designed by REdesign lab members for their 2019 Young Scholar Award (YSA) program! Dr. Camilo Mora Navarro, Lewis Gaffney and Emily Wrona have all had their projects chosen for funding. YSA projects are provided with one undergraduate funded by the Summer Interdisciplinary Research Initiative (SIRI) for the spring and summer.  A special congratulations goes to the following undergraduate students who were selected from a very competitive pool for the REdesign Lab-affiliated YSA Projects:

Amber Detwiler (REdesign mentor: Lewis Gaffney)

Cody Helm (REdesign mentor: Emily Wrona)

Jack Schultz (REdesign mentor: Dr. Camilo Mora Navarro)

BME Undergraduate Researcher of the Month Awarded to Erin

A big congratulations goes to REdesign undergraduate Erin Dowell, who received the BME Undergraduate Researcher of the Month Award for February 2019! The award was announced at the UNC/NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering’s weekly seminar where Erin was recognized for her dedication to research in inflammatory responses to extracellular matrix (ECM)-derived biomaterials.

Keep up the fantastic work, Erin!

Erin Receives Spring 2019 NCSU OUR Award

Congratulations to REdesign undergraduate and Abrams Scholar Erin Dowell who was recently funded a NCSU Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) Award for Spring 2019. As a result of her hard work and submission of a fantastic proposal, Erin will be awarded $500 in lab supplies for her research in the REdesign lab.

Great job, Erin!

Three REdesign Undergraduates Selected as 2018-19 Abrams Scholars

Congratulations to Ariana, Erin and Sindhoor who were recently selected as Abrams Scholars for the 2018-19 school year! The Abrams Scholarship is awarded to outstanding undergraduates in the UNC/NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering in order to conduct research in faculty labs. The scholars embark on a year-long research project and present their results in the spring. The program pays homage to C. Frank Abrams Jr., who was instrumental in the formation of the BME department we now have today.

Way to go Ariana, Erin and Sindhoor!

Ariana Receives 2018-19 OUR Research Grant

Congratulations to REdesign undergraduate Ariana Frey who just received a NCSU Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) Research Grant for the 2018-19 school year! The OUR Research Grant funds $1,000 towards supplies for Ariana’s winning proposal. You can read more about the grant here:

Keep up the great work, Ariana!

Ariana Awarded 2nd Place at CMI’s 2018 Annual Research and Innovation Summit

Congratulations to REdesign undergraduate Ariana Frey who was recently awarded the 2nd place poster award at the Comparative Medicine Institute’s (CMI’s) 2018 Annual Research and Innovation Summit. Ariana was selected to participate in CMI’s Summer Interdisciplinary Research Initiative (SIRI), a competitive program in which undergraduates at NCSU conduct interdisciplinary research in CMI laboratories. This year, SIRI projects were linked with CMI’s Young Scholar Award (YSA), where CMI associate members competed in teams in an NIH-style grant competition for funding for proposed SIRI projects. REdesign graduate student Emily Wrona was part of the funded team that mentored Ariana this summer.

Congrats Ariana!

2017-18 Abrams Scholars Present Research

Congratulations to REdesign Lab’s three 2017-18 Abrams Scholars, Erin, Prayag and Sophia, for finishing a great year of productive and inventive research. The Abrams Scholarship program provides funding to promising BME undergraduates dedicated to conducting research in the Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. In addition to presenting at the Abrams Scholars end of the year seminar, Erin, Prayag and Sophia also presented at NC State’s Undergraduate Research Symposium.
