REdesign Lab Presents at 2019 Annual BMES Meeting

The REdesign Lab recently attended and presented at the 2019  Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, PA! The BMES Annual Meeting brings together scientists and engineers from all fields of biomedical engineering for four days of talks, poster presentations, networking events and celebrations. The REdesign Lab also participated in graduate school recruitment for the department, a summary of which can be found on the UNC-CH/NCSU BME website.

Four REdesign lab members presented the following posters (presenting author is in bold and underlined):

Andreea Badileanu In Vitro Model Co-Culture Model to Study the Antifibrotic Effect of Porcine Derived Lamina Propria Extracellular Matrix Hydrogel

Ariana Frey – The Development of a Three-Dimensional In Vitro Model of Canine and Human Mastocytosis

Dr. Camilo Mora-Navarro Proteomic Characterization of Decellularized Vocal Fold Lamina Propria-ECM and Its In vitro Effect upon TGF-b1 Fibrosis Modulation

Emily Wrona Ozpinar Direct and Indirect Three-Dimensional Co-Cultures of Macrophages and Pluripotent Stem Cell Derived-Cardiomyocytes

Dr. Mora-Navarro, Ariana, Dr. Danny Freytes, Emily and Andreea at BMES 2019.

We had a blast!

Four REdesign Undergrads Selected as 2019-20 Abrams Scholars

A record-setting number of REdesign Lab undergraduate researchers were selected for this year’s Abrams Scholar Program!  Sponsored by the UNC-CH/NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, the Abrams Scholar Program admits some of the brightest and most promising BME undergraduate researchers. Awardees are selected after a competitive application process and are given a stipend throughout the school year to do research on a specified project,  culminating in a final presentation to the department in the Spring. The program is named after C. Frank Abrams Jr. who was an integral part of the formation of the BME department we now have today.

The four awardees in the REdesign Lab are Amber Detwiler, Ariana Frey, Cody Helm, and Isabel Mayo.

We all look forward to the work you will all do this school year! Congratulations!

Ana and Emily Receive Poster Awards at 2019 BME Annual Retreat

Congratulations to REdesign postdoctoral research associate Dr. Ana Maria Gracioso Martins and REdesign PhD candidate Emily Wrona Ozpinar for receiving poster awards at the UNC-CH/NCSU Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering 2019 BME Department Retreat. The poster competition was sponsored by the BME Graduate Student Association and featured awards in three categories: Scientific Quality, Presentation/Communication and Poster Design. Emily was awarded 1st place in the Scientific Quality category and Dr. Gracioso Martins was awarded 2nd place in Presentation/Communication. A summary of the event can be found on the BME department website.

Keep up the great work, Ana and Emily!
